As far as future volatility is concerned.....I will also not be trading around holidays and news announcements or earnings season announcements. I would rather miss a few small profitable trades than suffer a huge loss. |
Understood, trading around holidays and news anouncments has been proven problematic. The only way to do this is to start with that intention and a system designed for it.
But, the real question is, if your going to tighten your stops, what criteria are you going to base your judgement on. The way the robot takes trades is often a little different than the way I would manualy, and often if I simply set a manual stop by my trading standards it would get taken out. I have seen many trades that I didnt like turn around to profit, or nearly breakeven. Thats why I mentioned volitility assessments, not to concern about holidays and such, but to have a factor to base stops on.
Unless, you plan to be there to manualy oversee the trades, which is probably the best method. It doesnt require constant monitoring, just checking at intervels to spot potential problems, and watching for breakouts in the wrong direction. I dont usualy change the systems stops unless I see something obvious, but when I see a trade thats obviously gone bad I will often itervene and manualy manage it to seek the best exit. In this case I would adjust both stops and targets, draw support and resistance and trend lines, check the larger retracement levels and the wave counts, and try to calculate the best exit, either by a stop, or by selling on a bounce back.
But this is all a bit harder to do in advance. Thats where current volitility assessments can come in, unfortunately the volitility during this time period is generally much different than the normal volitility, and basing stops on an average range is not generally accurate. Either way I agree that something can and should be done, its just not easy to do it in advance. |

Very, very bad. | After EURGBP hit the second SL , I pulled it from FAP Turbo. I was already running it with restricted trading hours and it helped but not enough.
Yesterday started off with a bang and it looked good for FAP Turbo. And then the sh*t hit the fan and multiple pairs started losing, not just EURGBP. My live account took a loss on the GBPCHF pair and my demo account took three fairly big losses. The SL with EURGBP was the worst. I still walked away from yesterday with the best day of this week Quote: |

| Proupin, can you please add your FAP Turbo settings to your trading journal so we can analyze the adjustments you made. The adjustments I make to my live and demo accounts are always in post #1 of my trading journal and they are updated every time I make a change before trading begins using those settings.

| Took a big hit on EURGBP again yesterday, as well. As with the rest of you, I had tried restricting its trading, and lowering the risk, but to no avail. 3 times in 3 weeks with me is enough. I am a loss with EURGBP and GBPCHF, but am up nicely on a small live account with the other 2. I am going to pull these two for the forseeable future. Still up 5% in 4 weeks. Not bad considering the net losses in the GBP pairs. Without those pairs, I would have been up 13%, so I will try for a month or so without them. |

I am using V45 Pro and restricting the trading hours, the SL and the max spread . It has been working fairly well so far in my live account. I took a large hit yesterday with this pair and I am currently in the red with this pair by only $8.00 or so. See post #1 of my trading journal for exact settings.
