In the case of 5 digit brokers the spread shows the following way on my MD window: Spread 3.1 (31 pips). Which means that "normal spread " is 3.1 pips and 5-digit spread is 31 pips.

According to tech support, there was an issue with FXCM. It's fixed now, thankfully....but that's one lost day of trading for me.

Is anyone else with ATC or another ECN STP broker experiencing uncharacterstically high spreads right now?

With an ECN/STP I'm seeing between 1.4/14 pips and 3.5/35 pips. Is anyone else seeing this because that's huge for this type of broker ....way above average. Other STP brokers like JadeFX and IAMfx are not showing this..

I'm just curious to know if anyone with ATC is noticing these huge spreads over the past two days...yesterday I was seeing 8/80 pips!

I was also thinking about switching to ATC and your questions sound rather ominous... Do you still experience the spread problems? I would think that this may be volatility related, but if JadeFX and IAMfx do not show it, it must be ATC specific...

Dennerle, I've been trading MD live on FXDD for about a year now with no problems. They mainatain a fairly constant spread at 2 pips.
I also have a demo account with ATC, their spreads varry a lot, but the most I've seen on the EURUSD durring MD's trading hours is 0.8 pips, it tends to be lower durring active hours and I've never seen it go higher.
I also have an account at FXCM. Their spread for the EURUSD is too high at about 2.6 pips, but I like their spreads on some of the cross pairs better than FXDD.

Just from this its easy to surmise that ATC with the lower spread is better, but once you add on the commisions I'm not so sure. ATC charges a 0.8 pip commision on top of the spread , and this comes out of the profits. So if MD makes 10 pips on FXDD, it only makes 9.2 pips on ATC, and if the majority of the trades are breakeven, on ATC they're breakeven -0.8 pip commisions. This is a big difference when your dealing with such a small fixed profit target, and seems to negate the benefits of this type of broker . ATC would need to make additional trades to compensate for the additional commision, and I've only seen it do that once.

I spent a while watching spreads on FXCM tonight and it seems that they actually go mad sometimes. Eg. normal spread for EURCHF is 3.8-4.0, but I saw it jump to 11.0 pips. This makes scalping hardly possible. I wonder how they behave when general volatility is lower...

FXCM/ATCs servers and such have been completely out of whack the past few days. Another outage today....

Bad news, though. Megadroid made a a bad trade, had to close it manually. If I didn't, it would have hit the stop loss, so the profit I made was wiped away tonight unfortunately.

Down 500 instead of up 500 like I was.

i've realized those with FXOpen broker tend to have additional megadroid trades which other brokers doesn't have

FXOpen is a scam. Anyone else experience a bad trade with MD tonight, or just me?
